Abstract: If academic institutions desire to function with much greater effectiveness what should they do?   And if they wish to have an environment of cooperation and harmony, how would such an environment be created? These are the questions this talk tries to answer based on real-life experiences.

The talk is about managing and leading academic institutions by connecting with people, being sensitive, gaining confidence in one's behavior and actions, and taking people along through dialogue and understanding. It would be of general interest because the situations occur in everyday life. [Please see the attached PDF file for the details regarding the talk.]

Biography: Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), is currently Professor Emeritus (Honorary) at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad. He is a former Director of IIT (BHU), Varanasi (2013 - 2018) and IIIT Hyderabad (2002 - 2013) and a former Professor at IIT Kanpur. His research interests include Natural language processing, artificial intelligence, machine translation, and speech processing. Prof. Sangal is a founder-head of the Language Technologies Research Centre, at IIIT, Hyderabad, India, the largest academic center for computational linguistics (CL) research in this region of the world. He has worked on the Computational Paninian Grammar framework which is linguistically elegant and computationally efficient. It is a dependency grammar-based framework, particularly well suited for morphologically rich and free word-order languages. Prof. Sangal holds a BTECH. in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, M.S. & Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
